What is Marijuana? According to Dictionary.com, Marijuana is, â€Å"a preparation made from the dried flower clusters and leaves of the cannabis plant, usually smoked or eaten to induce euphoria†(marijuana). Marijuana, also known as â€Å"Mary Jane†, is drawn out to be an extremely horrible, life-ruining drug. Children learn that marijuana is a â€Å"gateway† drug and that it only does harm. Though it can be quite addictive, Marijuana is safer than commonly used drugs like Tobacco and could possibly be more helpful medically than many of the prescription drugs currently available. The legalization of Marijuana would have an extremely advantageous effect on the economy, healthcare, and focus of police on more violent criminal activity of the United†¦show more content†¦She says that the states legalizing â€Å"Mary Jane† need to make sure its positive effects outweigh the negative effects with research over many things that could possibly be M arijuana induced. In some ways, she is correct. Areas that are legalizing Marijuana need to make sure it is used correctly, as Alcohol is. If an increase in crime rate or DUIs is seen, and the culprits test positive for THC, then Marijuana legalization may have to be repealed because of dangerous effects on communities. As Janne Nikkinen stated, â€Å" In the US, legalization of marijuana has been accomplished by using gambling as model how to gain acceptance for addictive product, and use of tax revenues seems to follow at least first the pattern developed for lottery proceeds,† (Nikkinen 476-484). Jane Nikkinen displays the addictiveness and tax revenue of Marijuana in comparison to the addictiveness and tax revenue of gambling. In gambling, you just want to keep betting more and more money even though you may be losing tremendous amounts. It’s similar to the United States’ 20+ Trillion debt (we just keep on borrowing even though we are already have a c olossal debt looming over our heads).
